BASIC PURPOSE: The Love’s Family of Companies is seeking a Manager of Strategic Initiatives to support the company’s trading operations, origination, strategic planning and communications, and advocacy efforts.  This position will play a key role in advancing the company’s priorities by facilitating strategic initiatives across various business lines.          

 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trading Operations, Origination, Strategic Planning and Communications

  • Aid business leaders, staff, and support services to assure smooth operation of day-to-day and cross-functional operations
  • Work with business line leaders and commercial staff to identify, cultivate, and execute organic and inorganic growth opportunities.
  • Organize annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly management meetings.  Assemble content and emcee relevant meetings.

State and Federal Government Affairs 

  • Monitor and report on state and Federal legislation and regulations with potential business impacts; develop and maintain relationships to support.
  • Manage and deploy internal capability leaders to engage with policymakers. 
  • Participate in trade associations, and stakeholder coalitions, and legislative and regulatory proceedings to assure aligned priorities and effective representation.

Cross-Functional Coordination 

  • Collaborate with internal business units to understand operational needs and align government affairs activities with company objectives. 
  • Assist with political engagement efforts, including grassroots initiatives and coordination with relevant political organizations. 
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and professional communication with senior management regarding legislative, regulatory, and political matt

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, Communications, Business, or a related field. High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience:
  • 2–5 years of experience in government relations, legislative staff roles, regulatory agencies, or similar positions. 
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to evaluate multiple variables to make fast, informed business decisions.
  • Strong understanding of energy and fuel markets.
  • Strong knowledge of state and Federal legislative and regulatory processes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with policymakers, associations, and stakeholders. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed to state capitals and Washington, D.C. 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Skills:
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, and ability to learn new software applications and computer programs.
    • Results driven focus with the goal and ability to harness others’ energy to accomplish strategies and tasks.
    • Strong networking, customer management, and relationship building skills
    • Able to operate with limited support from other departments; strong multitasking and willingness to take on work at all levels of developing new business line
    • Vocal leader.  Team player.  Willing to share opinions, think critically about, and drive direction of broader company.
    • Results-driven focus.  Bring energy to workplace and as a leader serve as example to direct reports as well as team members in other departments
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Occasional site visits/tours and general exertion associated with office work
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision
